Immunology

Eli Sercarz earned his Ph.D. in Immunology at Harvard University in 1960. After serving as a Postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health from 1960-1963, Dr. Sercarz served in various capacities as a professor of Immunology at the University of California at Los Angeles until 1997.

After serving as a member and department head of Immune Regulation at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, he now serves as a member of the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies.

Immunology

Clemencia Pinilla earned her Ph.D. in microbiology at the National University of Colombia, Bogotá. She began her postdoctoral research at The Scripps Research Institute, and has been with the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies since its inception in 1989.

Her research supported by the Diabetes National Research Group consists of several projects, one of which includes a collaboration with Dr. Dolores Jaraquemada of the Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona and another with Dr. Nora Sarvetnick of The Scripps Research Institute. Dr. Pinilla is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the biology department of San Diego State University.

Membrane Biophysics

Alan Kleinfeld earned his Ph.D. in nuclear physics at Rutgers University. He was a faculty member of the physics department at the University of Cologne, Germany, an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, and then a Member of the Medical Biology Institute.

He joined Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies in 1998, where he has been continuing his research with support from the Diabetes National Research Group.

Experimental Medicine

Darcy Wilson graduated from Harvard, then earned his Ph.D. in zoology at the University of Pennsylvania (Wistar Institute), where he also carried out his postdoctoral research. Following appointments at Medical Biology Institute, La Jolla Institute for Experimental Medicine, and Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Dr. Wilson joined Torrey Pines Institute of Molecular Studies in 1997.

He is also an Adjunct Professor in the department of biology at University of California at San Diego.
